Your Personal information is safe with Rental Research/Background Research, Inc.

  1. Rental Research, Inc./Background Research, Inc. (RRI/BRI) will only provide consumer reports to businesses that have been verified through our credentialing policy.
  2. RRI/BRI requires that landlords (does not apply to public records requests for tenancy) and employers (all types of inquiries) obtain their applicants/employees written consent before a background check can be run.
  3. Anyone requesting a consumer report must have permissible purpose to run the report. RRI/BRI can only run reports for employment and tenant screening. We cannot perform credit reports for any other purposes.
  4. RRI/BRI must have a signed application from the applicant to perform a credit check. If the member enters the application into the website themselves, they must hold onto the signed release for 5 years. RRI/BRI may periodically require members to supply them with copies of the signed releases.
  5. To generate a background check, we may provide our data providers with the applicant’s personal information and other relevant information.
  6. The information we find out about an applicant is shared only with the people/companies that the applicant gave us authorization to share it with. It will not be distributed to anyone else.
  7. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, a consumer has the right to dispute information reported about them that they feel is incorrect or inaccurate. If you dispute the information in your background check, we may share the information you’ve provided with our data providers and other relevant service providers as part of our efforts to investigate, report, and remedy any discrepancy or error in your records. Any comments made by you during this process may be shared with the persons requesting the background check and data providers with whom the dispute involves. If you have a dispute, call RRI/BRI at 253-838-9545 to initiate the dispute process.
  8. If we have information that allows us to contact you, we will do our best to provide you with advance notice before disclosing your information to law enforcement unless we are prohibited to do so by law or court order or in limited cases where we believe that notice would be counter-productive, such as situations involving imminent physical harm or harm to minors. .
  9. For processing payments, we use systems that are compliant with the PCI DSS. All payment information is safely stored according to PCI DSS requirements.
  10. Information is stored on a secure server in the United States. We implement technical measures to prevent unauthorized access and keep security patches and software up-to-date. We restrict and audit employee access to information. We store sensitive personal information in encrypted form. We encrypt all personal information when information is transferred from one place to another. Data is kept only as long as required by law.
  11. Hard copies of data containing personal information will be stored in a locked bin until destroyed by a professional document shredding company. Personal information including social security number and birthdate will be redacted before being placed in the bin.
  12. RRI does not screen applicants under the age of 18 unless they are emancipated. BRI does not screen applicants/employees under the age of 18.
  13. Credit checks done for tenant screening is what is called a “hard hit” to your credit score. This means that a credit check for this purpose may impact your credit score. Credit checks done for employment screening what is called a soft hit to your credit score meaning that it will not impact your credit score.
  14. Credit reports done for tenant screening purposes may or may not include a credit score. Credit reports done for employment screening purposes never contain a credit score.
